FAQs

Everything you need to know about hypnotherapy

What is hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is a therapeutic technique that uses hypnosis to create a state of focused attention and increased suggestibility. During this state, the hypnotherapist can help you address subconscious patterns, beliefs, and behaviors that may be causing problems in your life. It’s a safe, natural, and effective way to make positive changes.

Will I be asleep or unconscious?

No. Despite what you may have seen in stage shows, hypnotherapy is not sleep. You remain fully aware and in control throughout the session. You’ll hear everything being said and can remember the session. Hypnosis is actually a state of focused relaxation where your conscious mind takes a back seat, allowing your subconscious to be more receptive to positive suggestions.

Can I be made to do something I don’t want to do?

Absolutely not. This is one of the biggest misconceptions about hypnosis. You cannot be made to do anything against your will or values. You remain in complete control and can choose to accept or reject any suggestions. If a suggestion doesn’t align with your beliefs or desires, your mind will simply ignore it.

How many sessions will I need?

This varies depending on the individual and the issue being addressed. Some clients experience significant change after just one session (particularly for specific phobias or smoking cessation), while others benefit from a series of 3-6 sessions. During your free consultation, Mark will discuss your specific situation and recommend an appropriate treatment plan.

What does hypnosis feel like?

Most people describe hypnosis as a deeply relaxing and pleasant experience. It feels similar to that drowsy state just before you fall asleep, or when you’re so absorbed in a book or movie that you lose track of time. You’ll feel calm, focused, and relaxed, but remain fully aware of your surroundings.

Is hypnotherapy safe?

Yes, hypnotherapy is completely safe when practiced by a qualified professional. There are no harmful side effects. Hypnosis is a natural state that you enter many times throughout the day (like when daydreaming). Mark is fully qualified with a Diploma in Hypnotherapy and 30 years of experience in the Emergency Services.

Can everyone be hypnotized?

Most people can be hypnotized to some degree, as long as they’re willing and able to follow instructions. The key is being open to the process and trusting your hypnotherapist. Some people go into deep hypnosis quickly, while others experience a lighter state – both are equally effective for therapy.
