Frequently Asked Questions

Read through some of our most frequently asked questions below:

  • What is Hypnosis?
Simply put Hypnosis is a heightened state of focus NOT sleep. This means that when you are in Hypnosis you can still hear what is going on around you as well as feel if you are being touched say on the shoulder or head by the Hypnotist. You actually naturally go into hypnosis several times a day. That day dream state as you are staring out of the window is an example or when driving your car and not remembering the last 2 miles that you have driven.
  • How do you put me into Hypnosis?
There are several methods by which this can be done. The names will mean nothing to you but what I will say is that you can be placed into hypnosis by means of: Talking you into a deep state of relaxation. Making you stare at me or an item for example a light. Making your hand stick to a chair or table. Making your arm stiff. The thing to remember though is that you MUST want to enter a state of hypnosis. When you are under I can take you in to a deeper state.
  • What does Hypnosis feel like?
The experience is different for everybody. Some say it's like the best state of relaxation ever. For others it can feel like they have become a little heavier within themselves. There are those who state that at the time they were convinced that that they were not under at all. It was only when they were asked to open their eyes that they had to instantaniously reaquint themselves with where they were. Time change can also be a factor during hypnosis. Some wake from Hypnosis and believe that they have been under for 10 minutes when infact they have been under for 40 minutes. You can move and as I have experienced with some of my clients talk whilst in Hypnosis.
  • Have you ever been hypnotised by a Hypnotist?
I am a great believer of doing unto others only what I will to have done to me. I most certainly have been hypnotised several times. For me it is the greatest feeling. I know that every time I am placed into Hypnosis I am about to make a new positve change to my life. I am highly susceptible to hypnosis which means I go under very quickly and very easily. There are those who find it a little difficult to go under initially because or fear or scepticism but once done once or twice it becomes easier.
  • Is there a chance I won't come out of hypnosis.
Absolutely not! Remember you are not asleep but in a hightened state of focus. If I leave the room, after a while your Subconscious mind will advise you that nothing is happening and you will simply open your eyes.
  • Can you make me do anything illegal?
No. It is important to know that when in Hypnosis you are in complete control. Your own moral compass will not allow me to give you a suggestion that you would not consider right. If there was an attempt to do this you would simply wake up. Likewise I cannot make you do anything that would embarrass you say for example and dare I say it cluck like a Chicken ( If I had a £1 for everytime I heard this I would be a rich man)
  • Can you cure me of anything and in one session?
As a Hypnotherapist I do not "cure" you of anything. My role is help you come to terms with an issue and learn how to deal with that particular issue. If you have seen my video on this website of smoking cessation you should know that although the immediate effect is to make the cigarette taste disgusting, there will be other issues which need to be dealt with to ensure a more permanant effect. I would also say that if you meet a therapist who states that they can cure you of anything in one session in a matter of minutes BEWARE.
  • So what is Hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy is a process of using hypnosis to interact with the subconscious mind. I cause you to reflect and create a positive change in your life. Imagine you whole life is a film. We can rewind that film and edit it. There are many ways in which we can make this happen. My role is to make contact with your subconscious mind. That part of the mind that holds all of your emotions, senses and memories. But how? Your brain has a filter called the Critical Factor ( like the Firewall in your computer). If I show you a pen and tell you that it is a mobile phone your filter will bounce that back as not true. If however you allow me to go around the filter I can within reason convince your subconscious mind to make that pen a mobile phone temporarily.
